How does COVID-19 affect Logifem?

Being an essential service, Logifem continues to provide accommodation and care to women and children in difficulty 24 hours a day. Caregivers are on site 24 hours a day and our kitchen is fully functional, preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our residents and their children as well as three coffee breaks each day.

Like everyone else, we have had to make major changes to the way we operate;

  • We have implemented rigorous hygiene measures to ensure daily disinfection.
  • We have modified our living space and the way we provide our services while keeping in mind the importance of connection for our residents who are already vulnerable and at a fragile time in their lives.
  • We have seen an increase in calls from women seeking services and have provided as many referrals as possible regarding food and housing security.
  • We have hired two new employees, kitchen helpers/housekeepers to increase capacity.
  • We have a protocol to follow when residents show symptoms of COVID-19.

If you would like to make a donation to help us with the additional costs, we would be very grateful.

What are the additional challenges?

  • Distancing is difficult because residents consider themselves family
  • Many of our residents suffer from mental health issues, so finding the balance between providing a clean, sterile environment and maintaining healthy morale is crucial.

We incurred additional expenses to cover costs related to staffing and supplies of gloves, masks, and disinfectants. We have also had to cancel fundraising events and are unsure how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect our donors’ ability to continue to support us.

Do you need a place to stay?

We are currently at full capacity. Women with or without children can call our intervention team at 514-939-3172 if they wish to put their name on our waiting list.

If a room becomes available, we will welcome new admissions.

Are you or a loved one in a precarious situation?

Are you interested in volunteering?

We have temporarily suspended several of our volunteer activities at Logifem, in order to limit the number of people entering and leaving our shelter. But other organizations need volunteers to meet increased needs. The Federation of Volunteer Action Centers of Quebec has a consolidated list of volunteer opportunities related to the COVID-19 crisis.

Do you have items to donate?

We have temporarily suspended receiving donations of items (clothing, household items, furniture) until further notice.

However, we are looking for items for one of our residents; Noise-proof shell, wall-mounted soundproofing materials and carpets with felt underlay.

Email anne@logifem.org with any questions.

Would you like to make a financial donation?

If you would like to show your spirit of solidarity and support our community, we would be very grateful. By making a donation, you help us meet these additional and necessary expenses to protect our residents and employees. A big thank you.
