As another year comes to an end, the Logifem board along with Sally, our Director, have spent time evaluating Logifem’s financial position. Thanks to many years of good stewardship and to the generosity of our donors, our books are looking healthy. In fact we have only reported annual deficits twice in the last ten years.
Despite our current resources there will certainly be challenges ahead, as running our services becomes more and more expensive. We are now responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of four buildings. The original shelter itself was built in 1988 and is starting to need major repairs to keep it in working order. The World Vision funding that allowed us to hire a full time Mother-Child Intervention Worker will soon be coming to an end. General operating expenses such as electricity and telephone bills are going up each year. We still receive a generous grant from the government of Québec that covers about 75% of our operating expenses but this grant is not increasing at the same rate that our expenses are increasing. That is why we are asking you to consider becoming a Monthly Donor.
Receiving monthly donations is a great help for Logifem as it helps us to plan our financial year. “My wife and I have always felt it important to support those less fortunate and who have been marginalized and believe that Logifem is doing a great job in this regard. We’re also aware from discussions with people working for non-profit organizations that a huge portion of donations come in during the last month of the year. While we know this is appreciated, it can be difficult for budgeting purposes as these organizations have fixed costs year round just like everyone else. So, we like to give on a planned basis throughout the year.”
