Since April 2023, Lidia Rainone has been a dedicated part-time occupational therapist at Logifem. In her role, Lidia works closely with women who face a wide range of mental and physical challenges. Her primary responsibility is to evaluate and assess each woman’s unique needs, helping them overcome the obstacles they encounter in their daily lives.
These obstacles vary greatly from person to person. For some, it may be as simple as getting organized or managing their daily chores at the shelter. For others, the challenges are more complex, such as dealing with chronic health issues like back pain, which can severely limit their ability to function independently.
Lidia’s approach is holistic, focusing not only on the physical aspects of these challenges but also on the mental and emotional well-being of the women she supports. By offering practical solutions and tailored interventions, she empowers them to regain control over their lives, fostering a sense of independence and self-worth.
, Through her compassionate care and expertise, Lidia has become an invaluable member of the Logifem team. Her work not only improves the quality of life for the women she serves but also plays a crucial role in their journey toward healing and recovery. We are incredibly grateful for Lidia’s contributions and look forward to seeing the continued positive impact she will have in the months and years to come.
Recently, Lidia ran a seven-week program titled “Taking Care of Me,” which focused on health from various angles, empowering participants to care for themselves in ways they may never have done before.
Creating Connections: Empowering Women Through Wellness Workshops
For many of the women we serve, self-care isn’t a familiar concept. Some haven’t had the opportunity to prioritize their health, while others might not even know how to ask for the right kind of help when visiting a doctor or nurse. Our workshop series aims to change that by addressing health from a holistic perspective, touching on topics that resonate deeply with the women at different stages of life.
Topics included:
- Understanding Different Life Stages: Exploring the physical and emotional changes that come with different stages of life, such as menopause.
- The Impact of Trauma: Most of the women at Logifem have endured significant trauma, which can manifest physically in ways like digestive issues or chronic headaches. The workshops help them understand these connections, providing tools to manage their symptoms better.
- Physical and Emotional Well-being: We encouraged simple but effective self-care practices like going for walks, prioritizing sleep, and recognizing and validating their own feelings. These discussions are crucial for women to start setting boundaries and taking steps toward healing.
- Grieving Losses and Moving Forward: This was an essential part of the healing journey, giving women a safe space to process their emotions.
- A Blend of Reflection and Creativity: The workshops begin with a 45-minute group discussion where women could share their stories and reflect on the week’s theme. Understanding that not everyone feels comfortable sharing, these sessions were designed to be both educational and supportive, with no pressure to speak up.
The second half of each workshop is dedicated to a hands-on activity, allowing the women to express themselves creatively and tangibly connect with what they’d learned : personalized Journals, monogrammed frames, stress ball creation, coasters with a twist, glass luminaries, aloe plants.
Your generosity makes programs like these possible, and we’re deeply grateful for your continued support. Together, we’re not just helping women survive; we’re helping them thrive. Thank you for being a part of this journey.
