Approximately one third of Logifem’s residents are immigrants. One of the biggest challenges they face is social isolation. In an effort to combat this, Logifem introduced the Intercultural Twinning Program. This allows immigrant women to connect with Quebecois volunteers.

Every two to three weeks, participants and volunteers meet to socialize, participate in activities and get to know each other regardless of language, class and cultural barriers.

Activities are planned based on the residents’ likes and interests. Our goal is to provide an empowering experience and foster leadership and interpersonal communication skills. The activities allow participants to share their backgrounds and talents.

For example Prija loves to cook, finding it a terrific way for others to experience different cultures and to connect by sharing a meal. A henna and body decorating night was suggested by Fatima, an esthetician who wanted to share her passion for beauty care.

This project is now open to all current and former Logifem residents regardless of their place of origin. We have also offered this program to residents of l’Abri d’espoir, the Salvation Army’s women’s shelter, as this organization has a similar mission and services. Building connection one day at a time!
