This Friday, October 18, the Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, and the Mayor of the Sud-Ouest borough, Benoit Dorais, officially announced the opening of Les Voisines du Canal, a project of 35 permanent housing units developed by Logifem for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This proud moment marks the opening of Logifem’s first permanent housing units since its inception.
In collaboration with Libr’elles and La Maison des RebElles, the LoReLi project, which includes the Les Voisines du Canal housing units, provides a concrete response to the housing crisis exacerbated by the pandemic. This project also represents a major milestone for Logifem, which continues to provide safe and stable shelter for women in precarious situations.
These units are not just simple housing but a true haven for 35 women and single mothers, offering them a more secure future. Les Voisines du Canal combines affordable housing with a dynamic and healthy community life supported by the presence of a community organizer.
Supported by the Société d’Habitation du Québec, la The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and the City of Montreal, this project marks a key step in Logifem’s mission to build a more inclusive future for low-income women.
The official visit of Benoît Dorais on Thursday, October 17, highlighted the importance of this project for the Saint-Henri community. Les Voisines du Canal embodies the vision of accessible housing, where every woman can regain stability and security.
With this initiative, Logifem opens a new chapter in its history, working towards a future where every woman can live with dignity and hope.
