Cultural Mediation

Women experiencing homelessness or severe housing precarity often face social exclusion that goes far beyond the lack of housing. Access to culture, activities, and community life is frequently limited by cost, isolation, insecurity, or unfamiliarity with available resources.

Developed in partnership with l’Abri d’espoir, Logifem’s cultural mediation program aims to remove these barriers by offering women living in our housing concrete opportunities for participation, discovery, and well-being, within a safe and supported environment.

Cultural mediation encompasses actions that create meaningful connections between people, the arts, and culture. Its goal is to make culture more accessible, encourage civic participation, and foster dialogue, discovery, and social connection through artistic and cultural practices.

For women living at Logifem, cultural mediation is a powerful pathway towards well-being and inclusion. It helps break isolation, strengthen self-esteem, build meaningful relationships, and foster a sense of belonging within the community.

Beyond the activities themselves, cultural mediation contributes to long-term social inclusion by supporting women in reclaiming public spaces and actively participating in community life.

The cultural mediation program offers accompanied cultural, artistic, and recreational outings, such as museum visits, performances, community events, creative workshops, and outdoor activities.

Some activities are also open to children and families.

Each activity includes full support, such as transportation, admission tickets, materials, and snacks. Certain workshops also incorporate moments of artistic expression—through crafts, writing, or creative projects—allowing women to creatively reflect on and express their experiences.

Depending on the activity, preparatory workshops may be offered in advance to support understanding and enrich the overall experience.

Following each activity, a group discussion with the project worker allows participants to share their feelings and reflect on their experiences.

Coordinated by a dedicated staff member, the program is rooted in a collaborative approach that combines women’s involvement in choosing activities, attentive psychosocial support, and the participation of cultural and community partners.
